| Treske Story Telling Chair Twelve primary schools in Thirsk were given a wooden chair made by Treske, who employ over 25 people from the town. The children then visited Treske to learn about chair design, see how many parts it takes to make a chair and the range of skills involved from front desk to delivery. Local artists visited each school to help the children transform the plain chair into their own schools special story telling chair. The colourful and imaginative designs were then displayed as part of the Thirsk Festival and are now back in use as the story telling chair in each of the schools. The creativity displayed by the children in their decoration of each chair was celebrated by Treske via the award of a certificate for their school. The project was developed with Arts and Business Yorkshire to encourage creativity but also provided insights into the world of skilled craftsmen. Treske hope that it may have sown some seeds of inspiration and awareness among future potential apprentices. |
