About Wood
Our woodlands reflect changes in land use, clearances for agriculture
and felling for timber and fuel over thousands of years of human
activity. At the beginning of the 20th century, 5% of land area in
Britain was woodland; it is now 10% and growing.
The British hardwoods we use at Treske come from sustainable forests
where new trees are planted to re-stock areas that are felled.
Most of the other timbers used are Forestry Stewardship Council
certified
and we are working towards 100% FSC certification. At Treske nothing
is wasted: not only do we make beautiful furniture that will last
for generations, but all waste material is burnt to heat the factory.
Different woods in natural finishes always look well together,
but we can stain your pieces to match existing furniture if you
wish.
After making your furniture Treske’s craftsmen and women apply
a water-and heat-resistant clear lacquer finish and a final hand
waxing to bring out the intrinsic quality of the wood and to protect
it from the knocks and shocks of daily use.
