In 1992, the World Heritage site of Fountains Abbey near Ripon in North Yorkshire acquired a new visitor centre by Edward Culinan Architects.
The simple, sturdy design, honest materials and strong construction of the 78 Treske tables and accompanying chairs in the restaurant not only echo the qualities of the building but perform their function equally well.
With over 300,000 visitors a year and years of continuous heavy use, the furniture has to perform in a high use food environment.
The atmosphere of the restaurant is greatly enhanced by the warm tones of the wooden tables and chairs with their rush seating which offer unsophisticated comfort and practicality. The National Trust is only one of many such heritage, conservation and ecclesiastical bodies who consistently recognise Treske’s expertise, flair and reliability in carrying out significant commissions of this kind.
