Kitchen Project - Danby

The light and spacious nature of the kitchen were key considerations to preserve within the design as well as easy access to the rest of the house and garden. By placing the induction hob and extractor in a corner between two windows, the sink could be placed centrally and in front of the main window, preserving light and views. Tall cabinets in the other corner of the kitchen concealed the fridge and a larder cupboard.

Under the River White granite worksurface a pair of ovens face shelving on the island for cooking books. The worksurface sweeps around the kitchen giving a large open worksurface. Above the surface, at one end a wall cabinet above the tea and coffee making area, contains a tv which is opposite the island breakfast bar. Behind the island breakfast bar a freestanding dresser with glazed display doors is incorporated into the design.

The island was designed to accommodate a breakfast bar set slightly higher than the rest of the top, under which are drawers on one side and bookshelves on the other. The island surface matches that of the rest of the kitchen, but also has an iroko wood surface for the breakfast bar set into the granite.

The kitchen is open plan with the dining area. An Artisan Invito table and Neva chairs from Treske were chosen making for comfortable and stylish dining.

Off the kitchen is a large practical utility consisting of a complete set of wall cupboards along the wall facing the window. The window cabinets are split either side of the window creating additional floor space for ironing and easy access to the washing/drying appliances set under the same River White granite as the main kitchen.
