Designed for a busy family who love to socialise, Treske designed the Poppleton kitchen with clean lines and traditional craftsmanship to create a timeless kitchen for everyday family living.

Many houses undergo a renovation prior to a kitchen installation. The addition of an extension and double French doors to this traditional old farmhouse, has flooded the existing kitchen space with light and added additional workspace and height to the room. A utility, bespoke home office and a dressing room completed the project.

What is the difference between modern and traditional kitchen design?

One of the key differences between modern and traditional kitchens is that traditional kitchen designs typically use visible butt hinges for their doors, finished in stainless steel, brass or antiqued brass, depending on the kitchen look required. This type of design is often known as an in-frame kitchen as the door is hung off a framed surround.

Modern kitchen doors typically sit in front and over their frames and will have hidden soft close hinges. This type of door is called lay-on.

Both styles are extremely useful for different situations, for example the kitchen might be in-frame but the utility might be lay-on while both could use the same door style to provide a design link and continuity.

What are your traditional kitchen doors made of?

With natural wood kitchens, the frame, doors and door panels, are made in your wood of choice. If required, panels can be selected for a particular grain feature such as burr oak. Kitchens that require a consistent wood patina may achieve this through decorative veneer panels.
